How well do you really know the people around you? A capacity for empathic understanding is hard-wired in our brains, but its full expression involves particular listening skills that are seldom learned through ordinary experience. This class will offer an opportunity to think more deeply and practice advanced skills in our expression of empathy in motivational interviewing conversations. We will provide clear explanations, specific examples, and practical exercises for developing your skillfulness in accurate empathic throughout the 4 tasks of MI.
This is an advanced training that is appropriate for anyone who had a foundation in MI and is interested in learning how to effectively communicate empathy to those who you are supporting through change and growth. Whether you are a therapist, medical provider, teacher, parent or friend, your professional and personal life can benefit from learning more and developing skills in empathic understanding.
