About the Event
This is an online 23-hour workshop that includes 18-hours of live class with Dr. Hartlieb plus 5 hours of asynchronous learning.
23 CE’s accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) will be awarded
Cost: $450 per person
Weekly classes are on Mondays starting January 15th, 2024 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm Mountain Standard Time / 2200 to 0100 UTC (next day) and continuing until Februay 19th, 2024
Asynchronous learning activities will be assigned weekly and can be done on your own time. Expect to complete 30 minutes of self paced learning per week.
Coach Level 1 Certification will be awarded upon completion of the workshop. This certification will prepare you to do the following:
· Reviewing work samples of MI
· Coding work samples using the MITI
· Generating a menu of examples for trainees based on feedback
· Using coding feedback during supervision/coaching sessions
In this 23-hour class you will learn:
· How to use the global ratings to evaluate the relational and technical elements of MI
· How to identify specific behaviors that are desirable and discouraged in MI
· Strategies for providing feedback from the MITI for self-evaluation and evaluation of other MI learners.
· Methods for establishing, evaluating and maintaining reliability in MITI coding for your practice.
Target Audience This workshop is appropriate for Novice coders (those who have no experience using the MITI) and those who are interested in using the MITI for evaluation of others, self-evaluation and continued development of your own MI skills.
Purpose of the Workshop
This workshop will focus on the newest revision of the Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity Code (MITI 4.2.1). Participants will learn to evaluate segments of MI practice using both global measures and specific behavior counts. The training will cover all aspects of the coding system with special attention given to using coding as a basis for providing feedback and coaching to others as well as facilitating self-evaluation and development of one’s own skills.
Instructors
Katie Hartlieb, PhD, RD, Professor and Program Director in Functional Nutrition at Parker University (Dallas, TX) is an international Motivational Interviewing consultant. She is part of the research team that developed the Minority Youth Sequential Code of Process Exchanges (MY-SCOPE). Dr. Hartlieb provides MI coding and coaching for NIH grantees and privately-funded institutions and participates in the development and training for MI standardized patient protocols.
Workshop Details
This workshop will take place online via zoom.
There will be a total of 18 hours of live weekly class sessions. The remaining 5 hours of class will be asynchronous (on your own time). The asynchronous activities include watching pre-recorded lessons and meeting with assigned partners online to record an MI session during weeks 4-5.
